We tend to think that vitality is a product of our overall health and environment, “When I am healthy, well-nourished and have the right environment, I will be excited and vital.”
That is my friend, with all due respect, an excuse.
Vitality is mostly a choice, a skill, a habit more than it is a repercussion of the state of your body, as far as you are not sick or haven’t a healthy meal in a decade.
Vitality is a mindset. It is how you react to the fact that you are alive.
As far as you convince yourself and others that it is not a choice, you don’t have to make the effort it takes to ramp your energy up and do what it takes to get there.
Wherever I look, I see a pattern in human behavior, we tend to save as much energy as possible, which means that we tend to put in the least amount of effort possible.
This is not only physical but mental as well.
This tendency we have inherited from the animal kingdom is slowly destroying every single molecule of joy that your life has to offer.
How does this affect you Exactly?
For example, you want to write a book, so you first check that you have the proper software and ideas, then you search for the best method and read about that, and then you go and look for best practices, and what you will need to know and what you will have to avoid and You Are Not Writing! The same with your YouTube channel, your invention, videogame, band, promotion, your Ph.D., running, yoga and meditation, and, ultimately, your life.
If you are reading this right now, I want you to commit to the truth. Say out loud, “Fuck it. I commit to calling out my bullshit!” or think about it if you cannot swear 🙂
Do you want to Run? RUN.
Don’t you have sports clothing? RUN.
You don’t have a drinking bottle, RUN.
You don’t feel like it? RUN FASTER.
You’ll soon understand that you don’t need a drinking bottle and that running shoes go first on your priority list.
This is what I mean by calling out your own bullshit.
Conclusion
“Mankind is the bullshiting animal,“ and only we can truly call our excuses because only we can honestly assess whether it is an excuse or not.
This does not mean that you don’t prepare, plan and do your homework. This means that you improve your method as you do it.
Research how to do it better while you do it.
In other words, in “work smart,” “work” goes first.
And if you have to face the terror of needing to do it all over again, GOOD! You got that experience!
Vitality is 80% choice and 20% health.
